- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- A drunk and a slut : I’m halfway through this 3rd installment of this series. I’ve really wanted to like this character and hoped as the books progressed, the character would as well. But you have an intelligent, educated man who is an alcoholic and knows he gets into trouble when he drinks. He knows he shouldn’t but “I’ll just have one more”. Then there’s a client who’s supposed to be a beautiful women that men can’t resist but she’s a sleaze. She shows up drunk, mascara running down one eye, one shoe off but he thinks that’s beautiful anyway. I don’t get it. The story lines in these books have been pretty good and, like I said, I really want to like the character, Sam. I do. But when does he want more for himself? Like I said, I’m only halfway through. I hope he starts wanting more for himself because it’s all getting a little old. He’s a functioning alcoholic. I know someone like that and it took his doctor saying “quit drinking or die” to wake up! Seriously. Liver failure. Is that where this character is headed? I know characters are supposed to be based on real life struggles of people but shouldn’t they also want more for themselves? Like real people? I don’t know. I guess I hope Sam decides he wants more for his life. If he doesn’t, this is my last book about Sam Johnstown. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Me : J: This one is a straight up 5 stars! I started this book yesterday evening, read on into the morning and finished in almost one sitting. The plot was truly intriguing, the courtroom drama was amazing and it ain't over till the very end. The excessive drinking and the ridiculous attraction was a bit annoying at times but absolutely crucial to the storyline. All I can do now is sit back and wait until September 2022 for book #4. Sam Johnstone is an alcoholic with PTSD. This can cause him difficulties professionally and personally. Each book centers on Sam's current client and their trail.
